How to Pin or Unpin Copilot in Windows 11
You can anchor the Copilot side panel to your desktop in Windows 11 or keep it hidden until you need it. Microsoft introduced Copilot in Windows 11 build 23493. This AI assistant (an interactive software tool that responds to natural language) responds to natural language commands for system tasks and daily workflows.
Pin or unpin Copilot from the taskbar by right-clicking the Copilot icon and selecting “Pin to taskbar ” or “Unpin from taskbar”. This action controls whether the Copilot panel is permanently visible or hidden until activated.
For computers that have Copilot added, a new Copilot button will appear on the Taskbar. It opens as a flyout menu when you press the button or use the Win+C shortcut.
You can ask Windows Copilot a range of questions or take actions such as: “Change to dark mode,” “Turn on do not disturb,” and “Take a screenshot.”
With the recent Windows 11 build 25992 (Canary), a toggle lets you pin or unpin the Copilot side panel on the Desktop for quicker access.
Anchoring the panel keeps the interface visible on screen at all times. Unpinning it reverts to the standard behavior where the pane appears only after clicking the taskbar button.
This functionality gives you more flexibility and convenience in using Copilot to interact with your systems and applications.
Pin or unpin the Copilot Side Pane to the Desktop
You can pin Copilot Windows 11 right to your desktop so it stays open alongside other windows instead of sliding away. To do this, open Copilot by pressing the Windows key plus C, then click the pin icon near the top right corner of the panel. Click the same button again whenever you want to unpin it and return to the normal sliding view.
Here is how to do it.
First, open the Windows Copilot or press the keyboard shortcut (Win+C).
When the Copilot side panel opens, click on the toggle to pin the Copilot side panel to the desktop.
Click it again to unpin the side panel.
That should do it.
Pinning the Copilot pane gives you permanent, one-click access to Microsoft's AI assistant without hunting for shortcuts.
