Control whether your conversations are used for Microsoft Copilot model training
Microsoft Copilot uses your chat conversations to improve its AI model and become more helpful, but you can choose to opt out.
Copilot is Microsoft’s AI assistant that learns from real user interactions to get better at answering questions and performing tasks. Microsoft collects chat data to train these AI models, aiming to make Copilot more accurate and faster for everyone.
Users control whether personal conversations contribute to Microsoft Copilot training data. This choice is important for users who prefer specific chat history not be used for general model improvement. Microsoft Copilot uses user data for model improvement with user consent.
Go to your Copilot Privacy settings and turn off “Training on conversation activity.” If you use voice commands, also disable “Training on voice conversations.” This prevents your chats and audio from being used for AI model training.
Find Your Privacy Settings
Your privacy settings control whether Microsoft Copilot uses your chats to train its AI models. To find these settings, go to copilot.com, click your profile picture, and then select your profile name to reach the 'Privacy' option. The 'Privacy' option is the main place where you manage how your conversations are used for training.
- If you use Copilot on the web (copilot.com): Look for your profile picture. Click it, then choose your profile name. You should then see an option for “Privacy.”
- If you use Copilot built into Windows or macOS: Click your profile picture inside the Copilot window. Then, go to “Settings” and look for the “Privacy” section.
- If you use the Copilot mobile app: Open the main menu, tap your profile picture, and then go to “Account,” then “Privacy.”
Control “Training on conversation activity”
You can stop Copilot from using your typed chats for AI model training by adjusting the ‘Training on conversation activity’ setting. This setting decides if your general typed interactions help improve the AI. Turn this switch OFF if you don’t want your typed conversations used for training purposes.
What to do: Locate the “Training on conversation activity” setting. If you wish to prevent your conversations from being used for AI model training, toggle this switch to OFF.

Disabling the AI model training setting stops Copilot from using future chats for AI model improvement. This action signals that users do not want their conversations included in training data, preventing any new chat content from being used to refine Microsoft's AI models starting immediately after the setting is changed.
Check “Training on voice conversations”
If you use voice commands with Copilot, check the ‘Training on voice conversations’ setting to control audio input. This setting lets you decide if your voice commands and audio are used to train the AI. Turn this toggle OFF to prevent your voice chats from being used for model training.
To prevent Microsoft Copilot from using your voice commands for model training, locate the "Training on voice conversations" toggle. Turn this specific toggle OFF. This action ensures that your voice command data is excluded from future training processes.

Voice recordings or their text transcriptions will not improve Microsoft Copilot's ability to understand and respond to spoken language. This setting stops Microsoft from using your spoken queries for training the AI model.
