Control whether your conversations are used for Microsoft Copilot model training
Controlling whether your chats are used for Microsoft Copilot model training lets you stop Microsoft from using your personal conversations to teach its AI assistant. Microsoft Copilot automatically collects chat data from Windows 11 and 10 to make its answers smarter and faster for everyone.
Opting out of this data sharing keeps your private questions and personal details out of public AI training sets. You can change this setting in a few clicks through your account privacy controls, and turning it off stops Copilot from learning from your future chats.
Go to your Copilot Privacy settings and turn off “Training on conversation activity.” If you use voice commands, also disable “Training on voice conversations.” This prevents your chats and audio from being used for AI model training.
Find Your Privacy Settings
Privacy settings control whether Microsoft Copilot uses chats to train AI models. Visit copilot.com, click the profile picture, and select the profile name to reach the 'Privacy' option. Managing how conversations contribute to training happens directly within this menu.
- If you use Copilot on the web (copilot.com): Look for your profile picture. Click it, then choose your profile name. You should then see an option for “Privacy.”
- If you use Copilot built into Windows or macOS: Click your profile picture inside the Copilot window. Then, go to “Settings” and look for the “Privacy” section.
- If you use the Copilot mobile app: Open the main menu, tap your profile picture, and then go to “Account,” then “Privacy.”
Control “Training on conversation activity”
Prevent Copilot from using typed chats for AI model training by locating the ‘Training on conversation activity’ setting. This switch determines whether general typed interactions help improve the AI. Toggle this switch OFF to stop contribution of typed conversations.
What to do: Locate the “Training on conversation activity” setting. Toggle this switch to OFF to prevent conversations from being used for AI model training.

Disabling the AI model training setting stops Copilot from using future chats for AI model improvement. New chat content remains excluded from refining Microsoft's AI models starting immediately after changing this setting.
Check "Training on voice conversations"
Voice command users should check the 'Training on voice conversations' setting to manage audio input. This toggle dictates whether voice commands and audio train the AI. Turning this toggle OFF prevents voice chats from contributing to model training.
To prevent Microsoft Copilot from using voice commands for model training, locate the "Training on voice conversations" toggle. Turn this specific toggle OFF. Voice command data remains excluded from future training processes as a result.

Voice recordings or text transcriptions will not improve Microsoft Copilot's ability to understand and respond to spoken language once disabled. Spoken queries stop training the AI model entirely.

How to opt out of copilot AI training?
Signed-in users control model training participation at any time on copilot.com: Select the profile icon, select the profile name, then select Privacy > Training on conversation activity and Training on voice conversations.
How do I opt out of GitHub copilot AI training?
This behavior is opt-out rather than opt-in. Disable it by visiting https://github.com/settings/copilot/features and locating "Allow GitHub to use my data for AI model training".
Is Copilot saving my data for training?
Is my Microsoft 365 Copilot data used to train Copilot models? No. Conversations from Microsoft 365 Copilot remain read-only for you and are not used to train Copilot's generative AI models.
Does Copilot use your prompts for training?
Copilot doesn't train on company data. Copilot's large language models (the underlying AI architecture) remain private to the organizational tenant and never train public models. Prompts are never retained to train outside the tenant.
