How to Enable Suggested Replies in Microsoft Teams

Suggested replies in Microsoft Teams offer short, pre-written answers based on the chat message you just received, so you can respond with a single click. The feature uses artificial intelligence to read the incoming text and guess what you might say next, such as “Sounds good!” or “I will check.”

You can turn this setting on or off in a few seconds inside the Microsoft Teams desktop app on Windows 11. Turn it on to speed up busy work chats. Turn it off if you want full control over every word you send.

Turn “Show suggested replies in chat” on or off in Teams

To enable suggested replies in Teams chat, open the Teams settings and tick one box on the General tab. After that, Teams shows clickable answers under messages people send you. You can switch it off again at any time from the same place. The change applies to your own account only, and it does not need a restart.

Follow these steps to update the setting.

4. Select Settings on the menu. The Settings window opens.

5. On the General tab under Settings, find the option "Show suggested replies in chat".
6. Check the box next to it to enable the feature.

To turn the feature off later, come back to the same place and clear the box. Suggested replies stop appearing in your chats.

If you cannot find the option, check two things. First, make sure Teams is up to date, because the layout of the Settings window can differ between Teams versions. Second, your organization may have disabled the feature for work accounts. In that case, ask your IT administrator.

The configuration is complete. Open a chat and have someone send you a message. If the feature applies to that message, you should see short reply options below it. Suggested replies do not appear for every message, so do not worry if some chats show none.
