Enable Optimize App Window Sizing on Windows 11

Managing how mobile apps display on a desktop keeps your workflow tidy. Windows 11 has a dedicated toggle in Phone Link that controls how mobile app windows are resized on your PC.

The Phone Link app is a Windows feature that lets you link your phone and PC using Wi-Fi 📶 or Bluetooth 🔷, and access your phone’s apps and data from your PC. You can browse, play, order, chat, and more on your PC’s larger screen and keyboard while your phone stays in your pocket or on your desk.

Connecting a mobile device opens up several options. Phone Link routes text messages, app notifications, and mobile audio straight to the desktop. It also gives you tools to turn allow the phone link app to sync over mobile without Wi-Fi 📶 on or off, unlink your phone from Windows, enable or disable auto startup for the phone link app, send and receive text messages from the app, add or remove Phone Link on the widgets board, turn dark mode on or off, open your phone screen in the app, turn show notifications for all my apps on or off, show notifications in the Phone Link feature feed, enable or disable using Phone Link with Windows suggestions, open Phone Link notification banners in the mobile app or Phone Link, enable or disable Phone Link to show text messages, enable or disable Phone Link to make calls from your mobile device.

When you use the Phone Link app and allow displaying your phone’s app on Windows, you can turn on or off a feature that resizes the app window on the Windows PC.

The setting is called Optimize app window sizing on my PC. It changes how mobile apps behave on desktop displays, and it matters most when you run mobile apps on a larger monitor.

With the feature on, Windows adjusts the app window’s scaling to fit your desktop. With it off, the window does not scale dynamically, which can limit how well the app works alongside your other desktop windows.

Changing this preference takes a few clicks in the Phone Link settings. Before you start, make sure your phone is already linked to Phone Link. The Apps options only show up for a connected phone, and the mobile apps feature is only offered on supported Android phones. If you don't see the setting later, check that first and update Phone Link from the Microsoft Store.

Here is how to do it:

1. Open the Phone Link app. The Phone Link window should open.
2. Add your phone if you haven't yet. If a phone is already connected, click the Settings button (the gear) in the top right corner of the window. A menu should drop down.
3. Select Features on the menu. The settings page for your phone should open.

4. On the right side of the Features settings page, scroll to the Apps section.
5. Select the Optimize app window sizing on my PC tile. Its toggle switch should be visible.
6. Set the switch to On to enable the feature. The switch should show as filled or active.

To disable it later, repeat the same steps and set the switch to Off. The change should take effect right away without a restart. If an app window that is already open still looks the same, close it and open it again from Phone Link.
