Restoring touchpad gestures to default in Windows 11 resets them to their original factory settings with a few clicks.

Touchpad gestures are special swipes and taps you use with multiple fingers on your touchpad to control Windows 11. They make it easier to do things like open Task View or search quickly.

Windows 11 usually comes with around 15 default touchpad gestures. These include handy shortcuts like two-finger scrolling and three-finger swipes to switch between open apps.

If you’ve changed a setting, perhaps the pinch-to-zoom sensitivity, and want to go back to how it was before, resetting is the easiest way.

⚡ Quick Answer

Open Settings, navigate to Bluetooth & devices, select Touchpad, turn off the touchpad toggle, and click the Reset button that appears. This will restore your touchpad gestures to their default settings.

Why reset your touchpad gestures?

Touchpad gesture resets can restore multi-finger swipe functionality if your touchpad stops responding. Resetting also helps when gestures feel slow or broken because this action clears old data that might be causing errors, such as accidental setting changes made by you.

What happens when you reset?

Windows 11 will remove all your custom settings. Your touchpad will revert to its factory state, much like when you first got your laptop. This won’t delete your files.

Advanced Troubleshooting: Device Manager

If the usual settings reset doesn’t fix your touchpad gestures, you can try resetting the touchpad driver through Device Manager.

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click your HID-compliant mouse or touchpad driver and select Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.

Registry Fix for Touchpad Issues

For persistent touchpad problems, you can manually reset touchpad settings by editing the Windows Registry.

For a manual reset, you can use the Registry Editor. Press Windows key + R, type regedit, and press Enter.

Delete the keys inside this folder. This will force the reset. Restart your PC afterward.

Difference Between Precision and Standard Drivers

A Precision Touchpad is a special design from Microsoft that offers smooth, multi-finger gestures. Standard drivers often rely on separate software; for example, Synaptics is a common one. Precision drivers are built directly into Windows 11, making them more stable and easier to manage.

Summary

Resetting your touchpad in Windows 11 is a simple process for fixing many navigation problems.

Why are my touchpad settings missing in 🪟 Windows 11?

Touchpad settings can go missing in Windows 11 if the driver is corrupted or disabled, often after an update.
