How to Enable or Disable Windows Update Delivery Optimization in Windows 11

Windows Update Delivery Optimization lets your Windows 11 PC share system updates and app downloads with other computers on your home network or across the internet. This built-in feature speeds up downloads and cuts down on internet data usage by pulling update pieces from nearby PCs instead of just Microsoft servers.

Windows 11 turns this sharing on by default to save you time. You can easily change these settings to share files only with computers on your local Wi-Fi network or turn the feature off completely if you want to stop sharing your bandwidth.

⚡ Quick Answer

Open Settings , navigate to Windows Update Advanced options Delivery Optimization. Toggle “Allow downloads from other PCs” on or off to enable or disable the feature.

What is Delivery Optimization?

Delivery Optimization speeds up large downloads by grabbing files from peer computers on your local network instead of hammering Microsoft servers.

Here’s how it works:

  • Your PC looks for other devices that already have parts of the update or app you need.
  • It downloads small pieces from those devices and from Microsoft at the same time.
  • This helps the download finish quicker and uses less internet data.
📝Important
Delivery Optimization only shares Windows updates and apps; it never shares your personal files or information.

Turn On or Off Delivery Optimization in Settings

  1. Press Win + I on your keyboard to open Settings Settings.
  2. On the left, click Windows Update. Then on the right, click Advanced options.
  3. Scroll down and click Delivery Optimization.

You can enable or disable Delivery Optimization in Windows 11 using the Settings app. Press the Windows key and 'I' together to launch Settings. Head to Windows Update, click Advanced options, and select Delivery Optimization.

  1. Switch on Allow downloads from other PCs.
  2. Choose either:
    • Devices on my local network (recommended for home networks)
    • Devices on the internet and my local network (allows sharing over the internet too)

To turn off Delivery Optimization:

  1. Switch off Allow downloads from other PCs.

With those changes made, you can now close the Settings window.
