How to Enable or Disable Windows Update Delivery Optimization in Windows 11

What is Delivery Optimization?

Delivery Optimization speeds up large downloads by grabbing files from peer computers on your local network instead of hammering Microsoft servers.

Here’s how it works:

• Your PC looks for other devices that already have parts of the update or app you need.
• It downloads small pieces from those devices and from Microsoft at the same time.
• This helps the download finish quicker and uses less internet data.

Turn On or Off Delivery Optimization in Settings

1. Press Win + I on your keyboard to open Settings Settings.
2. On the left, click Windows Update. Then on the right, click Advanced options.
3. Scroll down and click Delivery Optimization.

You can enable or disable Delivery Optimization in Windows 11 using the Settings app. Press the Windows key and 'I' together to launch Settings. Head to Windows Update, click Advanced options, and select Delivery Optimization.

1. Switch on Allow downloads from other PCs.
2. Choose either:

This tool allows you to access settings for enabling or disabling the feature. To open it, press the Windows key and 'R', type 'gpedit.msc', and then press Enter.

2. In the left pane, go to: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Delivery Optimization
3. On the right, double-click Download Mode.
4. Choose one of these options:

   • Enable and select LAN (1) to allow downloads only from devices on your local network.
   • Enable and select Internet (3) to allow downloads from devices on your local network and the internet.
   • Enable and select HTTP only (0) to turn off Delivery Optimization (downloads only from Microsoft).
   • Not Configured to let users decide in Settings.
5. Click OK to save your choice.
6. Close the Local Group Policy Editor.
