This post shows students and new users how to add a fingerprint to an account and log into Windows 11.

Windows 11 allows you to sign in with your finger if your machine can use biometrics. Your PC will need a fingerprint sensor or reader to read your fingerprint. If your computer wasn’t built with a fingerprint reader, you can get an external reader, attach it to your computer via USB, and use it this way.

You can use any finger to create a fingerprint profile. Remember that you’ll need the same finger each you wish to log in to Windows 11.

Windows fingerprint recognition is part of Windows Hello’s security feature, enabling other sign-in options. One can use a picture password, PIN, and a face to sign into Windows.

Hello, the fingerprint is secure in that the fingerprint is tied to the specific device on which it was set up.

How to setup fingerprint and sign into Windows 11

Fingerprint recognition is a feature that allows you to sign in to your PC with your fingerprint. You don’t remember complex passwords anymore. Simply use your finger to sign in to your PC.

Windows 11 has a centralized location for the majority of its settings. Everything can be done, from system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows from its System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + I shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings, as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.

Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Accounts, and select Sign-in options on the right pane of your screen, shown in the image below.

On the Sign-in options settings pane, select Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) to expand and click Set up as highlighted below.

Next, it follows the onscreen instructions to scan your fingerprint and set up your account. You’ll be prompted to enter your current password or PIN if you set up a PIN password.

On the next screen, Windows will ask you to start swiping the finger you want to use to log in on the fingerprint reader or sensor until Windows can get a full reading of your print.

Once Windows has successfully read the print on the first finger, you’ll see an all-set set message with an option to add prints from other fingers if you wish to add more.

Click Finish to complete the setup.

The next time you want to sign in to Windows, you scan the correct finger over the reader to get access to your computer.

That should do it!
