How to Enable or Disable Pen Visual Effects in Windows 11

Pen double-tap speed in Windows 11 controls how fast you need to tap your screen with a stylus for Windows to register a double-click. If your screen keeps missing your double-taps or triggers them by accident, changing this setting makes your pen match your natural hand speed.

You can adjust this speed in a few seconds through the Bluetooth and devices menu in Windows 11. Matching the setting to how fast you actually tap helps your pen feel much more natural to use.

⚡ Quick Answer

Adjust your pen double-tap speed in Windows 11 via Settings. Go to Bluetooth & devices, then Pen & Windows Ink, expand Additional pen settings, and move the double-tap time slider left for faster taps or right for slower ones.

Option One

Change Pen Double-tap Speed in Settings

  1. Open Settings by pressing Win+I.
  2. Click on Bluetooth & devices on the left side. Then click on Pen & Windows Ink on the right side.  Open Pen & Windows Ink settings
  3. Click on Additional pen settings to expand it.
  4. Look for the slider called The amount of time allowed between taps when you double-tap. Move the slider left to make the time shorter (faster taps) or right to make it longer (slower taps). The default time is 10. Hover your mouse over the slider to see the current number.
  5. Close Settings when you are done.

Change Pen Double-tap Speed in Registry Editor

  1. ⚠️ Admin privileges required — Open Registry Editor by typing regedit.exe in your search box .
  2. In the left pane, navigate to this location:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Pen\SysEventParameters

  3. In the right pane, find the DblTime DWORD value. Double-click on it to edit it.
  4. Click on Decimal. Type a number between 100 (fast) and 2000 (slow) for your desired double-tap speed. Then click OK.

The default double-tap speed is 300.

  5. Close Registry Editor when finished.
  6. Sign out and sign back in, or restart your computer to apply the changes.

Summary

Customizing pen double-tap speed bridges the gap between hardware and personal habits. Three distinct paths accomplish this goal: the Settings app, Control Panel , or Registry Editor (the database storing system settings). Proper configuration makes hardware respond reliably to specific tapping speeds, reducing daily friction. Pick whichever method feels most comfortable.
