How to Open Language Settings

Access the menu where you manage your installed languages using the Settings ⚙️ app.

1. Press the Win+I on your keyboard to open Settings ⚙️.

   

2. Click on Time & language in the left-hand sidebar.
3. Click on Language & region to view your currently installed languages and regional formats.

   

How to Add a New Language

Adding a new language to Windows 11 takes just a few clicks through your system settings. You can download and install any language pack by opening Settings, going to Time & language › Language & region, and clicking the Add a language button in the Preferred languages section while connected to the internet.

1. Open Settings ⚙️ and navigate to Time & language › Language & region
2. Locate the “Preferred languages” section and click the Add a language button.

   

3. Type the name of the language you want to add into the search 🔍 bar, or scroll through the list to find it.
4. Click on the language you want to install, then click Next.
5. Check the boxes next to the optional features you want to include, such as “Set as my Windows display language” or “Text-to-speech”.
6. Click the Install button to download the ⬇️ language pack.

6. Click the Sign out button on the notification prompt that appears, then sign back into your user account to apply the change.

How to Remove an Unwanted Language

Removing an unwanted language from Windows 11 clears out clutter and frees up storage space on your hard drive. You can delete any extra language pack by opening Time & language › Language & region in Settings, clicking the three-dot menu next to the language under Preferred languages, and picking Remove.

2. Look under the "Preferred languages" section to find the language you want to delete.
3. Click the three-dot menu icon next to the language name.
4. Click Remove from the drop-down menu. If the "Remove" option is grayed out, the language is currently set as your primary display language or your default system language, and you must switch to another language first before deleting it.

Configuring Regional Formats and Administrative Settings

Configuring regional formats in Windows 11 lets you change how dates, times, and numbers appear without altering your main display language. You can update these settings by scrolling to the Region section under Time & language › Language & region in Settings and picking your country from the Regional format dropdown menu.

1. Open Settings and go to Time & language › Language & region
2. Scroll down to the "Region" section.
3. Click the "Regional format" dropdown menu and choose a country or region to change how your system displays dates and times.
4. To apply your display language to your welcome screen, login screen, and new user accounts, click the Administrative language settings link under related settings. This step requires administrator privileges.
5. Click the Copy settings button in the Region window that opens.
6. Check the boxes for Welcome screen and system accounts and New user accounts, then click OK.
