How to Unlock your OneDrive Personal Vault
OneDrive Personal Vault is a protected area within your OneDrive that adds an extra layer of security for your most important files.
It acts like a locked digital safe inside your cloud storage, safeguarding sensitive documents like tax forms or personal photos.
To access files inside Personal Vault, you need a second verification step beyond your regular Microsoft account login. This extra step prevents unauthorized access even if someone gains entry to your main account or your computer.
Microsoft introduced Personal Vault to offer better protection for highly private data stored in OneDrive.
To unlock your OneDrive Personal Vault, navigate to the Personal Vault folder in OneDrive and click to open it. Verify your identity using your chosen method, such as a text code, email code, or the Microsoft Authenticator app. Once verified, the vault will unlock.

Go to Your Personal Vault
The "Personal Vault" folder within your OneDrive offers a secure place for your sensitive files. To access "Personal Vault," click on the "Personal Vault" folder in your OneDrive. Setting up "Personal Vault" for the first time or on a company-managed computer may require administrator permissions.
Prove It’s You (Again!)
OneDrive Personal Vault requires user verification each time it is accessed, similar to the initial setup process. OneDrive presents verification options chosen during setup. Users can receive a code via text message to their phone, through email, or by using the Microsoft Authenticator app for verification.
Follow the steps. If you chose text or email, you will need to get the code sent to your phone or email inbox. If you are using the Authenticator app, you might need to tap to approve a request or enter a code from the app.
Enter the Code or Approve the Request
Type the code you got into the box provided, or approve the sign-in request from your Authenticator app. Once you are verified, your Personal Vault will unlock. You can then see and open all the files stored inside it.
