How to Set Default From Address in Outlook for Windows
This guide explains how to choose a default email address for sending messages in the new Outlook app for Windows 11.
The new Outlook for Windows offers a clean, modern design. It supports Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com, Hotmail, and Gmail accounts.
The app includes many tools, such as support for email signatures, external email accounts, and options for setting out-of-office automatic replies, email sorting, subscription management, email forwarding, and switching layout ribbons.
If you have multiple email aliases, you can pick one to be your default “From” address. This makes sure all your emails come from the account you prefer.
Why do this?
Setting a default address saves you time. You will not have to manually pick your email account every time you write a new message. This is very helpful if you use different accounts for work or personal tasks.

Once finished, every new email you compose will automatically use your chosen account as the sender. You will no longer need to click a dropdown menu to switch accounts before you hit send.
Steps to set your default address

- Open the open the new Outlook app app on your computer. You can find it by clicking Start and searching for “Outlook.”
- Click the Settings button (the gear icon) located in the top right corner.
- In the Settings menu, click the Mail tab on the left. Then, select Sync mail on the right side of the screen.
- Choose the email address you want to use as your default.
