Install Nginx HTTP server on Ubuntu

Nginx is the web server that runs your ICE HRM application on Ubuntu 24.04. Installing Nginx is simple using terminal commands. After installing, you can start and stop Nginx, and set it to start automatically when your computer turns on, making sure ICE HRM is always ready to use.

Install the MariaDB database server on Ubuntu

ICE HRM needs a database to keep all its information, and MariaDB is a great choice for this on Ubuntu. Installing the MariaDB database server is done with simple commands in the Ubuntu terminal. This sets up the database system that ICE HRM needs to work properly.

To install and use the MariaDB database server, use the instructions below.

Open the Ubuntu terminal and run the commands below to install the MariaDB database server.

sudo apt update
sudo apt install mariadb-server

Once the MariaDB database server is installed, use the commands below to stop, start, and enable the MariaDB server to start automatically when the server boots.

sudo systemctl stop mariadb
sudo systemctl start mariadb

Run the following commands to validate and test if the MariaDB database server is installed successfully.

Create an ICE HRM database

After setting up MariaDB, you must create a specific database for ICE HRM to hold all its data. During this process, you’ll create a database named ‘icehrmdb’ and a user called ‘icehrmdbuser’. This user will then get full permission to manage the ‘icehrmdb’ database.

As part of the setup, we will create an icehrmdb database and a user account called icehrmdbuser.

The user grants `icehrmdbuser` full access to the `icehrmdb` database to ensure ICE HRM can read and write necessary data.

But first, log on to the MariaDB database server:

sudo mariadb

Then run the commands below to complete the steps:

Download ICE HRM files

It’s best to start by going to the /tmp/ directory.

First, navigate to the /tmp/ directory and download the ICE HRM files. Next, extract the content into the ICE HRM folder in the Nginx root directory.

The final step is to change the permissions. This will allow the Nginx web server to interact safely with the files, ensuring a secure environment for your ICE HRM installation.
