How to Manage Your Microsoft Account Passkeys

Microsoft account passkeys let you sign in without a password using your fingerprint, face, or a PIN. These digital keys securely connect to your device, replacing traditional passwords for better security.

You can manage your Microsoft account passkeys directly from the Advanced Security Options page in your Microsoft account settings. This is where you add, remove, or check on your passkeys.

For personal Microsoft accounts, managing passkeys is straightforward. You might need to do this when you get a new phone or want to review your account’s security settings.

For Your Personal Microsoft Account

For your personal Microsoft account, managing passkeys is done by visiting your account’s security page. This is where you’ll find all your sign-in methods, including your passkeys. Head over to account.live.com/proofs/manage and sign in to view and manage your passkeys.

1. Go to the Advanced Security Options page. The fastest way is to go directly to this link: account.live.com/proofs/manage. Make sure you are signed in to the Microsoft account you want to manage.
2. Find your passkeys. Scroll down the page. You will see a list of ways to prove it’s you. Look for the passkey symbol. It often looks like a key. Your passkeys will be listed there.
3. Open the passkey section. Click on the passkey symbol or the area where your passkeys are shown. This will open up to show you more details about each passkey.
4. Look at the passkey details. For each passkey, you can see where it’s saved. This could be on your phone, a specific device, or a password manager. You can also see when it was last used. This helps you understand your security setup.
5. Change a passkey’s name. See an option to Rename? This is useful if you have many passkeys for the same service or device. It helps you know which is which. Click Rename and type a new name. This does not change how the passkey works, only how it appears here.
6. Delete a passkey you don’t want. If you no longer use a device or method, or if you got a new device, you should remove the old passkey. Click Remove next to the passkey you want to delete.
