How to Enable Clipboard Copying in Windows Terminal

If you often copy text from the Windows Terminal app, there’s a handy feature that can make your work easier. It’s called “Automatically copy selection to clipboard”. When turned on, any text you select inside the Terminal will be copied right away—no need to right-click and choose “Copy.”

What is Windows Terminal?
Windows Terminal is a modern program where you can use command-line tools like Command Prompt, PowerShell, or Linux commands through Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).

You can customize many things in the Terminal app, like the language, window size, start-up behavior, and more. One useful option is to turn on or off the automatic copy feature.

Why Use Automatic Copy?

  • Turn it ON if you copy text often from Terminal. Just highlight text and it’s copied automatically.
  • Turn it OFF if you want to be careful about what gets copied, especially if you deal with sensitive information.
