This article explains how to turn the On or Off text cursor indicators when using Windows 11.

The text cursor indicator in Windows is a small blinking line that indicates where the text will be inserted while typing. It helps users to locate the cursor on the screen quickly, especially in large documents or when using a high-resolution screen.

The default small size usually isn’t helpful, especially for people with poor vision. With wide screens and higher resolutions, spotting the text cursor across more significant areas or even double screens can be difficult.

The text cursor indicator can be turned on or off in Windows, and its size and color can be customized according to the user’s preference.

How to enable text cursor indicator in Windows 11

As mentioned, users can turn the text cursor indicator on or off in Windows.

Here’s how to do it.

First, open the Windows Settings app.

Then, select Accessibility on the left and the Text cursor tile on the right to expand it.

On the Accessibility > Text cursor settings pane, select the “Text cursor indicator” tile. Then, toggle the switch button to the On position to enable it.

To disable it, toggle the switch button to the Off position.

Exit the Setting app when done.

How to turn on or off Text cursor indicator via the Registry Editor

Another way to turn on or off the Text cursor indicator is via the Windows Registry Editor.

To do that, first, open the Windows Registry and navigate to the folder key path as listed below.

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Accessibility

Next, double-click the “Configuration” name to open it. In the Value data field, enter the text cursorindicator and click OK to turn on the text cursor indicator.

Remove the “cursorindicator” added to the Configuration name above to turn it off.

That should do it!

Conclusion:

  • The text cursor indicator in Windows 11 enhances usability, especially for those with visual impairments.
  • Users can easily enable or disable the text cursor indicator through the Accessibility settings or the Registry Editor.
  • Customizing the text cursor’s size and color can improve visibility across different screen types and resolutions.
  • These adjustments contribute to a more comfortable and efficient typing experience for all users.

One thing to note right now is that when this cursor is enabled Windows 11 happily shows the cursor in all your DirectX games.

Not as a text input cursor where you are expected to enter text but as a defect showing on-screen in a fixed position that you cannot get rid of unless you turn off this cursor in Settings again.
