How to Launch Windows Terminal in the Center of Your Screen (Windows 11)
Windows Terminal (the app that puts Command Prompt, PowerShell, and Linux in one place) always opens near the left edge of your screen by default in Windows 11. Large monitors make this annoying because the window gets lost off to the side.
Changing one quick setting in your profile lets the app pop open right in the center of your screen every time. You do not need any special tools to fix this, and the steps take less than a minute.
Launch Windows Terminal in the center by opening Settings, navigating to Appearance, expanding Launch parameters, and toggling on “Center on launch.” Save your changes to make it the default.
How to Make Windows Terminal Open in the Center
Step 1Open Windows Terminal
Click the Start menu on your taskbar . Type ‘Windows Terminal’ in the search box. Then, select Windows Terminal from the search results.

Step 2Open Terminal Settings
Launch the application, then locate the small down arrow (˅) beside the plus (+) tab button in the top bar. Click that arrow, and pick Settings from the resulting menu. Pressing the comma (,) key on the keyboard accomplishes the same action.

Step 3Find the Launch Settings
Navigate the settings window by clicking Appearance in the left sidebar. Expanding the section labelled Launch parameters reveals the option to Center on launch.
Step 4Turn on "Center on launch"
The "Center on launch" setting positions the app dead centre on the display. Toggling the switch next to "Center on launch" to the "On" position enforces this behaviour permanently.

Step 5Save Your Changes
Scroll downward and select the Save button. Subsequent launches of Windows Terminal will now appear directly in the middle of the display.
Why Center the Terminal Window?
- It makes your screen look neat and organized.
- It's easier to find and use the Terminal, especially if you have a large monitor.
- You can quickly access commands without hunting for the window on the side.
Summary
Modifying this single configuration parameter keeps the desktop workspace organised. Locating the terminal window takes zero effort once positioning defaults to the centre of the screen.
