How to Enable or Disable Single-Finger Tap for Touchpad in Windows 11
Do you find your laptop touchpad too sensitive? You might accidentally click things just by resting your finger on it. This guide shows you how to turn the “tap to click” feature on or off in Windows 11.
Why change this setting?
Sometimes the touchpad is too jumpy. If you use a physical mouse, you might want to disable touchpad taps so you don’t click items by mistake while typing.
What happens when done?
Once you change this setting, your laptop will stop recognizing a simple tap as a mouse click. You will need to physically press down on the touchpad until it clicks to select items.
How to adjust your touchpad settings
You can manage these settings through the Windows Settings app. You do not need special permissions for this; any standard user account can make these changes.
First, open your settings. You can press the Windows key + I on your keyboard, or click Start %%LNK0%% and then Settings.

Next, look at the menu on the left side of the window. Click on Bluetooth & devices and then select the Touchpad tile on the right side.

Now, find the section labeled Gestures & interaction. Click on the Taps section to expand the options. You will see a box labeled Tap with a single finger to single-click.
Check the box to enable the feature, or uncheck it to disable it.

Summary
Changing your tap settings helps you control how your laptop responds to your touch. By turning off single-finger tapping, you can prevent accidental clicks while working. You can always turn this back on by following the same steps in the Touchpad settings menu.
