Copilot Cowork in Microsoft Edge lets AI assistants take actions directly inside your browser.
This feature allows AI to open tabs and interact with websites, using your current logins and cookies to access them just like you can.
Microsoft Edge on Windows 11 provides settings to easily turn Copilot Cowork on or off.
This Copilot Cowork control in Microsoft Edge on Windows 11 keeps your browsing private by managing what the AI can do on your computer, preventing unintended data sharing.
Open Microsoft Edge, click the three dots, select Settings, then Copilot and AI. Toggle “Allow Cowork to take actions on your behalf” on or off. This setting is saved on your device.
Here’s How:
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the Settings and more button (it looks like three dots). Then, click Settings.
- In the left menu, click Copilot and AI. If you don’t see a left menu, click the three lines button in the top left or make the Edge window wider until the menu appears.
- You’ll see an option called Allow Cowork to take actions on your behalf. Turn this On or Off depending on what you want. The default is usually Off.
- You can now close the Settings tab if you wish.

Copilot Cowork in Microsoft Edge lets you control its automated actions. This Copilot Cowork feature lets Copilot perform tasks for you, offering you the option to turn Copilot Cowork off for privacy or turn Copilot Cowork on for more direct help with computer tasks.
Choose I understand to let Cowork use the browser. After this, Cowork will use regular website and action permissions and won’t show this first-time message again.
If you don’t choose I understand, Cowork won’t use the browser. It will still try to do the parts of your request that don’t need the browser and will tell you what it couldn’t do. The permission message will show up again the next time you ask for a browser-related task.
Summary
To control whether Copilot Cowork can perform actions for you in Microsoft Edge, go to Edge’s Settings, find the “Copilot and AI” section, and toggle the “Allow Cowork to take actions on your behalf” option. This setting is saved on your device.
