How to Add Languages to Live Captions in Windows 11
This guide explains how to add new languages to the Live Captions feature in Windows 11.
Live captioning is a tool included in Windows 11 build 22557. It shows text on your screen when audio is playing. It is very helpful for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. You can turn it on by pressing WINDOWS + CTRL + L or by looking in the Quick Settings menu.
Why add more languages?
You might want to add other languages to changing the on-screen positions for a few reasons. It helps if you are not fluent in the language being spoken. It also makes your computer more accessible if you speak a language other than the one in the video. Finally, adding more language packs can help your computer understand and write down words more accurately.
What happens when you are done?
Once you finish these steps, the new language will appear in your Live Captions menu. Your computer will then be able to listen to audio in that language and show you the text on your screen.
How to add a language
Note: Some system-wide language changes may require admin privileges.
- Turn on Live Captions.
- Click the Settings button inside the Live Captions window.
- Select Caption language and then click Add a language.

The Language & region settings window will open. Go to the Preferred languages section and select Add a language.

Search for the language you want. Make sure it supports Speech recognition, then click Next.

In the Install language features window, make sure Enhanced speech recognition is checked. Click Install.

Wait for the download to finish. Once it is done, the new language will show up in your Live Captions menu.
Summary
Adding languages to Live Captions makes your PC easier to use. It helps non-native speakers understand audio better and makes captions more accurate. By going through the Language & region settings and installing Enhanced speech recognition, you can use Live Captions in many different languages.
