How to Turn On Dynamic Lighting in Windows 11

Dynamic Lighting is a new feature in Windows 11 that lets you control colorful RGB lights on your computer devices and accessories, like keyboards, mice, or other gadgets that support it.

This means you can change and customize your device’s lights right from Windows without needing extra software.

How to Turn On or Off Dynamic Lighting

Follow these simple steps to enable or disable Dynamic Lighting on your Windows 11 PC:

  1. Open Windows Settings:
    • Click the Start menu (Windows logo at the bottom left) and choose Settings.
    • Or press the keys Windows key + I together on your keyboard to open Settings right away.
  2. Go to Personalization:

    In the Settings window, click on Personalization from the left-hand menu.

  3. Find Dynamic Lighting:

    On the right side, look for the tile labeled Dynamic Lighting and click it to open.

  4. Turn Dynamic Lighting On or Off:

    You will see a switch labeled Use Dynamic Lighting on my devices. Click the switch to On to enable it or Off to disable it.

  5. Close Settings: When done, just close the Settings window. Your changes save automatically.

Turn Dynamic Lighting On or Off Using the Registry Editor (Advanced)

If you prefer, you can also turn Dynamic Lighting on or off by editing the Windows Registry. This is a bit more advanced, so be careful and follow the steps exactly.

  1. Open the Registry Editor:
    • Press Windows key + R, type regedit, then press Enter.
  2. Navigate to this folder:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftLighting
  3. If you don’t see the Lighting folder: Right-click on the Microsoft folder, choose New > Key, and name it Lighting.

  4. Inside the Lighting folder, right-click on the right side, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  5. Name this new value AmbientLightingEnabled.
  6. Double-click AmbientLightingEnabled, set the Base to Decimal, and set the value data to:
    • 1 to turn Dynamic Lighting ON
    • 0 to turn Dynamic Lighting OFF

  7. Close Registry Editor and restart your computer to apply changes.
