This post shows students and new users how to make Google Chrome the default web browser in Windows 11.

Google Chrome, the most widely used browser in the world, is easy to install and use in Windows 11. Most people find Google Chrome easy to use than Microsoft’s Chromium-based browser, Edge.

I believe Microsoft Edge is as good as Google Chrome. But many will disagree.

The default web browser in Windows 11 is the new Microsoft Edge browser. Most people might not realize that the new Edge is better and more useful than the old one, and may not be open to using it, and instead are switching to Google Chrome to make it their default browser.

How to set Google Chrome as the default web browser in Windows 11

The new Microsoft Edge is the default browser in Windows 11. Follow the steps below to configure Google Chrome as default and always use it as your preferred browser.

This post assumes that Google Chrome is already installed on your computer. If not, go to https://www.google.com/chrome/ to download it.

After that, click on Start and go to Settings.

On the System page, go to Apps on the left menu and click Default apps to the right.

When Default apps settings open, use the search box and type Edge to search for the default app for applications.

Microsoft Edge will appear in the result below. Click on Microsoft Edge.

The next page will list all the default file types and link types for which Edge is the default. Simply select each type and switch from Edge to Chrome.

For each file type, choose Google to be the default, then click OK to confirm and switch.

When you’re done, each file type should be switched to Google.

That should be it!

Google Chrome should now be the default web browser for Windows 11.
