How to Enable Close Tabs Prompt in Microsoft Edge

You enable a close tabs prompt in Microsoft Edge to prevent accidentally closing multiple open tabs at once.

This prompt appears when you try to close an Edge window containing more than one tab, asking for confirmation like “Do you want to close all tabs?”.

Microsoft Edge, the default browser for Windows 11, is built on the Chromium engine, similar to Google Chrome.

While this feature is active by default, you can disable it if you prefer closing tabs without confirmation.

Use Edge Settings to Turn the Prompt On or Off

When you close an Edge window with multiple tabs, you normally get a prompt asking “Do you want to close all tabs?” This is on by default.

Here is an example of what the prompt looks like:

Summary

You can enable the prompt to ask before closing a window with multiple tabs in Microsoft Edge in two ways: through the Edge Settings menu or through the Windows Registry. The Settings method is easier for most users. The Registry method gives you more control if you manage multiple computers. Either way, this feature helps prevent you from accidentally losing your open tabs and work.
