How to Record Your Screen with Snipping Tool in Windows 11

Windows 11 now lets you record your screen using the Snipping Tool. This replaces the older Snipping Tool app and Snip & Sketch tools. You no longer need extra software to capture video of your desktop.

Why record your screen?

Screen recording is helpful for showing someone how to use an app, saving a video clip, or creating a quick tutorial. It allows you to share exactly what you see on your monitor.

What happens when done?

Once you finish recording, you can review your video. You can then save the file to your computer to keep or share later.

Note: This feature requires the latest version of the Snipping Tool (11.2211.35.0). It is currently available for Windows 11 users enrolled in the Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.

How to record your screen

1. Open the Snipping Tool app from your Start menu.
2. Click the Record button located on the menu bar.
3. Click the New button.
4. Use your mouse to drag and select the area of your screen you want to capture.

5. Click the Start button to begin recording.

6. When you are finished, click the red Stop recording button.

After you stop, a preview window will appear. You can watch your video here. When you save the file, it will be placed in your Video folder folder located at C:\Users\YourUsername\Videos.
