The OneDrive app allows you to sync your files and folders to the cloud. You can then access them from your phone or other computers. The OneDrive app is built into Windows 11. It lets you use your files directly in File Explorer, even without an internet connection.
Why use Personal Vault?
Personal Vault is a locked area inside your OneDrive. It requires extra proof of your identity to open. You can use your fingerprint, face, PIN, or a code sent to your email or phone. This keeps your most private files safe, even if someone else gets into your computer or account.
What happens when you set it up?
Once finished, you will have a secure folder that requires a second check of your identity every time you open it. This protects your sensitive data from unauthorized access.
Enable OneDrive Personal Vault
First, open your OneDrive app or sign up for OneDrive if you do not have an account yet.
Click the OneDrive icon in your taskbar (Taskbar overflow). If you see a message for Personal Vault, click Get started.

If you do not see that message, open your OneDrive folder in File Explorer and double-click the Personal Vault link.
On the window that pops up, click Next.

Click Allow when the setup tool asks for permission.

You will need to confirm your email address. Microsoft will send you a code.

Type the code from your email into the box. Your Vault is now ready to use.

From now on, Windows will ask you to verify your identity using a PIN, face recognition, or fingerprint every time you open the folder.

Enable OneDrive Personal Vault online
You can also turn this on through your Microsoft account. Go to your OneDrive account page online and sign in.
Click the Settings (gear) icon and choose Options.

Select Personal Vault on the left side and click Enable.

That is all you need to do!
