This guide explains how to manage the download menu in Microsoft Edge for 2026. Why do this? It helps you track your files easily so you never lose track of what you just saved.

Microsoft Edge is the default browser in Windows 11 and 12. You can use  switch to their preferred or favorite browser if you prefer a different browser. Edge is built on the same technology as Google Chrome, making it fast and reliable.

When you download a file, a small menu usually pops up to show progress. What happens when done? You will always know exactly where your files are stored.

Turn on the download menu in Edge

If you don’t see the download menu, you can turn it back on. First, open your browser and go directly to edge://settings/downloads.

On this page, click the switch next to “Show downloads menu when a download starts.” Toggle it to the On position.

Pin the Downloads button to your toolbar

You do not need to visit the settings menu every time you want to see your files. You can pin the button directly to your top toolbar for quick access.

  1. Click the three dots in the top right corner of Edge.
  2. Right-click on the “Downloads” icon.
  3. Select “Show in toolbar.”

Now, a download icon will always stay at the top of your screen. You can click it anytime to see your recent files.

Conclusion

Managing your downloads makes your computer life much easier. You can now see your progress at a glance or open the menu with one click.

Note: Please remember that enabling the download menu is different from the “Ask where to save each file” setting. The download menu simply shows you the status of your files. The “Ask where to save” setting forces a window to pop up every time you click download so you can choose a specific folder for that file.

Close your settings tab when you are finished. Your browser is now set up perfectly for your needs.
