How to Use High Contrast Themes in Windows 11
If you have trouble seeing your screen clearly or find bright colors uncomfortable, Windows 11 has a built-in feature to help. High contrast themes change the colors on your screen to make text, buttons, and images stand out more. This makes it easier to read and navigate your computer.
Why use high contrast themes?
These themes are designed for people with low vision or light sensitivity. By making the background darker and the text brighter, or vice versa, the computer becomes much easier on the eyes. It helps you quickly spot important items on your desktop.
What happens when you are done?
Once you apply a theme, your screen colors will change immediately. You will notice that menus, windows, and text look very different and much easier to read. You can switch back to the normal view at any time using a simple keyboard shortcut.
You can turn this on right from your login screen. Just look for the accessibility icon and toggle the High Contrast switch.

How to change your contrast settings
To change these settings while logged in, you need to open your computer’s main settings area. Note: Changing system-wide accessibility settings may require admin privileges.
1. Open the Settings app. You can press the Windows key + I on your keyboard, or click the Start menu and select Settings.

2. Once the window opens, click on Accessibility in the left-hand menu.
3. Look for Contrast themes on the right side of the screen and click it.

4. You will see a list of themes like Aquatic, Desert, Dusk, and Night Sky. Click on one to see how it looks.

5. You can also turn on a quick shortcut. Look for the option to enable the keyboard shortcut: Left ALT + Left SHIFT + PRINT SCREEN. This lets you turn the feature on or off whenever you want.
6. Click the Apply button to save your choice.

Many users find that the Dusk theme provides a good balance for their eyes.
