How to Check for App Updates Using Windows Update in Windows 11

This simple guide will help you check if your apps have updates available using the Windows Update feature on Windows 11.

What’s New?

With the latest versions of Windows 11 (starting with build 26220.7344), Microsoft introduced a new system called the Unified Update Orchestration Platform (UOP). This system helps keep app updates smoother and less annoying by managing them better behind the scenes.

In Windows 11, you can now see app update progress in one place, and take action if you want, by going to Settings > Apps > App Updates.

How Does This Work?

  • Apps tell UOP they want to get updates.
  • UOP checks for updates and installs them when your computer is ready (like when you’re not busy).
  • Apps still get their updates from their own usual places.
  • Apps tell UOP how their updates are going, so you can see the status in Settings.

Who Can Use This?

Right now, this feature is just starting out. Not many apps use it yet, but over time, more apps will join in. If you are part of the Windows Insider program on the Dev or Beta channel, you might see this feature partially available already.

If you want to try it now: You can enable the feature early using a tool called ViVeTool, but that’s for advanced users only.
