How to Change Text Cursor Thickness in Windows 11
This guide explains how to change the thickness of your text cursor in Windows 11. The text cursor is the blinking line that appears when you type. Sometimes, this line is too thin to see on modern, high-resolution screens.
Why adjust the cursor? Because a thin line can easily get lost in a sea of text. Making it thicker or adding an indicator makes it much easier to find your place while typing.
What happens when done? Your cursor will be easier to spot, helping you work faster and with less eye strain.
Change cursor thickness via Settings
The easiest way to change this is through the Windows Settings app.
- Open the Windows Settings app by clicking the Start button or pressing Windows Key + I on your keyboard to open the Settings app.
- Click on Accessibility in the left menu.

- Select the Text cursor tile on the right side.

- Use the slider under Text cursor thickness to make the line wider or thinner. You can also turn on the cursor indicator or change the blink faster or slower to help it stand out.

Change cursor thickness via Control Panel
You can also use the older Control Panel menu.
- Open the Control Panel app.
- Navigate to: Control Panel -> Ease of Access -> Ease of Access Center -> Make the computer easier to see.
- In the section labeled “Make things on the screen easier to use,” use the drop-down menu to set the thickness of your blinking cursor.

Change cursor thickness via Windows Registry
Advanced users can use the registry to set a specific width. Note: This step requires admin privileges.
- Open the Windows Registry.
- Navigate to this path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

- Right-click in the empty space on the right side and select New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Name this new value
CaretWidth. - Double-click
CaretWidth, set the Base to Decimal, and enter a number between 1 and 20. - Save your changes and restart your computer.

Summary
Making your text cursor thicker helps you find your place quickly on large or high-resolution monitors. You can adjust this setting through the modern Settings app, the classic Control Panel, or by editing the CaretWidth value in the Windows Registry. Once updated, your typing experience will be much more comfortable.
