This article explains how to turn text prediction on or off in the Microsoft Edge browser.

Microsoft Edge is the default browser in Windows. However, users can  switch to their preferred or favorite browser anytime. Edge is based on Chromium, just like Google Chrome.

Why use text prediction? It uses AI to guess what you are typing. This helps you finish sentences faster and stay focused.

What happens when done? You will see light gray text appear as you type. If you like the suggestion, press the Tab or Right Arrow key to add it to your text box.

Enable / Disable text prediction in Edge (Registry Editor)

You can also use the Windows Registry Editor to manage this setting. This method is intended for enterprise policy enforcement. For managed environments, we recommend using the official Edge Policy templates instead.

First, open the Windows Registry and go to this path:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge

Remember to back up your registry before making changes, or create a System Restore point as a precaution.

  1. Right-click in the folder, select New, then select DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  2. Name it TextPredictionEnabled.
  3. Double-click the name and set the value to 1 to enable it.
  4. Set the value to 0 to disable it.
