How to Display Day of the Week on Windows 11 Taskbar
Windows 11 shows the time and date on your taskbar by default. Many users prefer to see the day of the week as well. This guide shows you how to customize your taskbar settings to include that information.
Why add the day of the week?
Having the day of the week visible helps you stay organized without needing to click on the calendar. It is a quick way to keep track of your schedule at a glance.
What happens when done?
Once you apply these changes, your taskbar clock will display the day of the week next to the date. This change may also affect how dates appear in other programs on your computer.
Note: Some of these steps may require administrative privileges if you are using a managed computer or a restricted user account.
First, open your Settings menu. You can do this by pressing the Windows key + I on your keyboard or by clicking the Start button and selecting Settings.

Next, click on Time & language in the left sidebar. Then, select Language & region on the right side of the screen. %%LNK1%%

Scroll down to the “Related settings” section and click on Administrative language settings. %%SC0%%

A new window called “Region” will appear. Make sure you are on the Formats tab. Click the Additional settings button near the bottom of the window. %%SC1%%

In the new window that pops up, click the Date tab. Look for the box labeled Short date. You can type a new format directly into this box. To see the day of the week, type the following code:
dddd M/d/yyyy
Click the Apply button to see a preview of how your date will look. If you are happy with the result, click OK to save your changes and close the windows.

Your taskbar will now update to show the day of the week alongside your date.
Summary
- Windows 11 does not show the day of the week by default.
- You can change this through the Time & language section in Settings.
- Use the Administrative language settings menu to access custom date formatting.

dddd M/d/yyyyinto the Short date field to add the day name. - Click Apply and OK to save your new settings.

Thanks so much for this tip which removes one of several Windows 11 annoyances for me.
and to think…I was about to buy a wall hanging “DAYSCLOCK”
Neat little tweak, Thanks a LOT!
Thanks for this. Additional point – to customize the taskbar date format to include the day of the week you need to *type in* dddd into the *short date* field.
Is there any way to make this a 3 line system eg time / DOW / Date on separate lines? That is how it displays on W10 and I would like to continue that.
PERFECT!! thanks alot
Thank you, you made it easy. for me anyway.
