This guide explains how to find out which power plan your computer is currently using in Windows 11.

Why check your power plan?

A power plan, or power scheme, is a set of settings that tells your computer how to use electricity. By choosing the right plan, you can make your laptop battery last longer or help your desktop use less energy.

What happens when done?

Once you finish these steps, you will know exactly how your computer manages its power. You can then pick the best plan for your needs, such as “Balanced” for everyday use or “Power Saver” to keep your battery going longer.

Here is how to check your power plan:

First, open the classic Control Panel in Windows 11.

You can also click the Start button and search for “Control Panel.” Select the app from the results to open it.

Next, click Hardware and Sound, then select Power Options.

The Power Options window will appear. You will see a list of available plans. Look for the plan that has an asterisk (*) next to it. That symbol shows which plan is currently active.

If you prefer to check this using a command line, you can open Command Prompt (Admin privileges required) and type the following command:

💻Code
powercfg -getactivescheme

Summary

Checking your power plan is a simple way to manage how your computer uses energy. By using the Control Panel or the powercfg command, you can easily see if your device is set to save power or perform at its best. Keeping an eye on these settings helps extend your laptop battery life and keeps your system running efficiently.
