How to Remove DLNA Devices in Windows 11
Windows 11 allows you to stream your media files to other devices like TVs or game consoles using a technology called DLNA. This lets you play your computer’s music or videos on other screens in your home.
Why remove DLNA devices?
You might want to remove a device if you no longer use it, if it was added by mistake, or if you want to stop a specific device from accessing your private files. When you are done, your Windows computer will no longer recognize or share media with that specific device, keeping your network list clean and secure.
When you turn on DLNA media sharing in Windows, your computer looks for devices on your network. If you decide you don’t want a device to see your files, you can selectively block access to your shared resources.
How to remove DLNA devices
Follow these steps to manage which devices can see your media.
- Open the Control Panel app from your Start menu.
- Navigate to: Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Media streaming options.
- If streaming is not yet enabled, click “Turn on media streaming.” Note: This step requires admin privileges.

Once enabled, your firewall settings change. Only use this on trusted networks like your home Wi-Fi. By default, Windows shares files from your Music, Pictures, and Videos folders.
Removing the device
- Find the device you want to remove in the list provided.
- Click on the device name to highlight it.
- Select the button labeled Remove the device.

If the device is currently turned on, you may see an error message. Simply turn off the physical device and try clicking the remove button again.

Once the device is off, confirm the removal when prompted. Your list will now be updated, and the device will no longer have access to your media.
Summary
Removing a DLNA device is a simple way to manage your home network privacy. By using the Media streaming options in the Control Panel, you can easily add or remove devices that have permission to play your media. Always ensure you are on a private, trusted network before enabling these sharing features to keep your personal files safe.
