What’s new? Starting with Windows 11 version 24H2, there’s a simple way in the Settings app to create a QR code for your Wi-Fi password.
Instead of reading out or typing long passwords, your friends just scan the QR code with their phone or tablet, and they connect automatically.
How to Share Your Wi-Fi Password Using a QR Code
Follow these easy steps:
- Open the Settings app:
Click the Start menu (the Windows icon on the bottom-left), then click Settings.
Or press Windows key + I on your keyboard to open Settings right away.

- Go to Network & Internet settings:
In the Settings window, click on Network & internet on the left side.
Then click on Wi-Fi on the right side. - Find your connected Wi-Fi network:
Click on your Wi-Fi network name under the Wi-Fi section to open its details. - Show the Wi-Fi password QR code:
Look for the Wi-Fi network password area and click the Show button next to it. - Scan the QR code:
A QR code will appear on the screen.
Your friend can now use their phone’s camera or a QR code scanner app to scan the code.
Once scanned, their device will automatically connect to your Wi-Fi network.
When done, just close the Settings app.
