How to Customize Split Screen Shortcuts in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge Microsoft Edge browser is the built-in web browser for Windows 11. Because it is built on Chromium, it shares many features with Google Chrome, though users can  switch to their preferred or favorite browser if they prefer a different browser. Edge has a handy new feature called Split Screen that lets you look at two different websites side-by-side in one window.

Why use Split Screen?

Split Screen helps you multitask. You can read an article on one side and take notes on the other without switching tabs. It saves time and keeps your workspace organized.

What happens when you are done?

Once you finish these steps, you will be able to trigger the side-by-side view instantly using your own custom keyboard shortcut, making your browsing much faster.

How to change your shortcut

Follow these steps to set your own keys for the Split Screen feature:

  1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser.
  2. Click the Settings and more button (the three horizontal dots) in the top right corner.
  3. Select Settings from the menu.

  1. Click on Accessibility in the menu on the left side of your screen.

  1. Look for the Shortcut section. Find the box labeled Shortcut for split window.
  2. Type the new keys you want to use. You must include either the CTRL or ALT key in your combination.

Your changes will save automatically. You should close and restart your browser to make sure everything works correctly.

Note: These settings are specific to your user profile. You do not need admin privileges to change these browser settings.
