This article explains how to change or manage the startup page in the Microsoft Edge browser for 2026.

The Microsoft Edge browser is the default browser in Windows. However, users can  switch to their preferred or favorite browser anytime. Edge is based on Chromium, which makes it very fast and compatible with most modern websites.

Why change your startup page? It saves you time. You can have your favorite work or news sites open the moment you click the browser icon.

What happens when done? Edge will automatically load your chosen websites every time you open the program, so you can start your day immediately.

Manage Edge start settings

You can configure Edge to open a new tab, restore your last session, or open specific pages. To find these options quickly, use the search bar at the top of the Settings menu.

  1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser.
  2. Click the Settings and more (three dots) icon in the top right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. In the Search settings bar at the top, type “Start” to quickly find the right section.
  5. Click on Start, home, and new tabs in the left menu.

On the right side, under When Edge starts, select one of these options:

  • Open the new tab page: Shows a clean new tab every time.
  • Open tabs from the previous session: Restores the websites you had open when you last closed the browser.
  • Open these pages: Allows you to add specific websites that will always launch at startup.

System and Performance Features

There are two other settings that affect how your startup page behaves:

  • Startup boost: Found under System and performance, this keeps a small version of Edge running in the background. It helps the browser open much faster. If this is on, your “Open these pages” selection will load almost instantly.
  • Sleeping tabs: When you choose to “Open tabs from the previous session,” Edge uses Sleeping tabs to save memory. It puts inactive tabs to sleep so your computer stays fast, even if you had many pages open before closing the browser.

That should do it!

Configuring your Edge startup page optimizes your browsing experience by saving time and keeping you organized. By using the search bar in Settings and balancing features like Startup boost, you can make your browser work exactly the way you want.
