This post shows students and new users steps to change the touchpad scroll direction in Windows 11.
If your Windows 11 device has a built-in precision touchpad, you can change its settings to allow click actions that mimic wired or wireless mouse actions.
By default, touchpad devices operate in a standard direction. However, if your touchpad device does not scroll in the direction you like when using the two-finger swipe gesture, you can change that.
Windows allows users to turn off or disable these actions in the Settings app. If you have a mouse connected to your laptop and prefer using it, disabling the touchpad actions can help reduce annoyance.
Other settings one can perform on the device’s touchpad are; turning on or off the on-screen touchpad, using touchpad gestures, turning off touchpad clicks, tapping the touchpad with a singer’s finger to single-click, enabling two fingers on the touchpad to right-click, tapping twice and drag to multi-select item, changing touchpad cursor speed or disable your device touchpad altogether and more.
Below is how to change the scroll direction of your touchpad device in Windows 11.

Windows 11 has a centralized location for the majority of its settings app. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from the System Settings pane.
To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + I shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings, as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.
The Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Bluetooth & devices and select the Touchpad tile on the right.

On the Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad settings pane, under Gestures & interaction, select the scroll & zoom tile to expand.
Under Scroll & zoom, select the Scrolling direction tile, and choose which direction you want:
- Down motion scrolls up
- Down motion scrolls down

That should do it!
Conclusion:
- Windows 11 provides a centralized location for adjusting touchpad settings, allowing users to customize the scroll direction to their preference.
- By navigating to System Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad, users can easily modify the scrolling direction under Gestures & interaction.
- Whether users prefer a down motion to scroll up or down, Windows 11 offers the flexibility to accommodate individual preferences.
