This article explains a new way to manage the lid close settings in Windows 11.
Lid close settings in Windows refer to the settings that control what happens when you close the lid of your laptop. By default, most laptops are set to sleep mode when the lid is closed. However, you can customize these settings to have your computer stay awake, shut down, or hibernate when the lid is closed.
In our previous post, we showed you how to change the lid close settings in Windows 11. Then, one had to use the classic Control Panel app. Now, users can use the Windows Settings app to change what happens when the lid on the laptop is closed.
Changing lid close settings in Windows can be useful for several reasons. For example, if you frequently connect your laptop to an external monitor or use it as a desktop replacement, you might want to keep the computer awake when the lid is closed.
On the other hand, if you use your laptop primarily on the go, you might prefer to have it enter sleep mode when the lid is closed to conserve battery life. Customizing the lid close settings in Windows allows you to tailor your laptop’s behavior to your needs and preferences.
Change the lid close action in the Settings app
As mentioned above, a new way to alter the lid close settings was introduced with Windows (Build 26002).
Here’s how to use the Settings app to change the lid close settings.
First, open the Windows Settings app.
You can do that by clicking on the Start menu and selecting Settings. Or press the keyboard shortcut (Windows key + I) to launch the Settings app.
When the Setting app opens, click the System button on the left.

Select the Power & battery or Power
tile on the right to expand it.

Select and expand the ‘Lid, power & sleep button controls‘ tile on the System -> Power & battery settings page.

Next, select the ‘Closing the lid will make my PC‘ tile under Plugged in or On battery.
Then, choose one of the options available for closing the lid:
- Do Nothing
- Sleep (default)
- Hibernate
- Shutdown
- Display Off

When you’re done, exit the Settings app.
That should do it!
Conclusion:
- Windows 11 introduces a new method to manage lid close settings, providing flexibility for users.
- With the Settings app, users can easily customize their laptop’s behavior when the lid is closed, offering options like “Do Nothing,” “Sleep,” “Hibernate,” “Shutdown,” and “Display Off.”
