How to Set HDR JXR Wallpapers in Windows 11
Windows 11 now lets you use high-quality JXR images as your desktop wallpaper. If you have a monitor that supports HDR, these images will look brighter and more vibrant than standard photos.
Why use HDR wallpapers?
Standard wallpapers can look dull on high-end screens. Using JXR files allows your monitor to show a wider range of colors and light levels, making your desktop look more realistic and vivid.
What happens when you are done?
Once you finish these steps, your desktop background will display in full HDR quality, provided your monitor supports it. Your screen will automatically adjust to show off the deep colors and bright highlights of your selected JXR file.
To start, make sure your device must have an HDR display or that you are connected to a screen that handles HDR. You can use Check to check if your computer is ready, then enable it in your display settings. Setting these files works just like any other picture, which you can read about in this post.
Note: You do not need special permissions for these steps, but ensure you have your JXR image saved on your computer first.
How to set your HDR wallpaper
- Open the Windows Settings app. You can find this in your Start menu or by pressing the Windows key + I on your keyboard to open the Settings app.
- Click on Personalization in the menu on the left side of the window.

- Click the Background tile on the right side of your screen.

- Under the “Personalize your background” section, make sure the dropdown is set to Picture.
- Click the Browse photos button and find the JXR file you downloaded.

Once you select the file, it will appear as your new wallpaper. If you have multiple screens, the image will adjust based on what each display can handle. For the best results, you can run the HDR Calibration app app.
Summary

- These files provide a better, HDR-quality look on compatible screens.
