This post explains the steps for students and new users to turn apps on or off sharing across devices in Windows 11.

When you use Windows with your Microsoft account, you can enable Share across devices to allow you to continue Windows app shared experiences on other devices connected to your account.

To use the Share across Devices feature in Windows, you must enable and turn it on for all devices you want to allow “Shared Experiences” or “Cross-Device Experiences” on. The default option will allow your apps to be shared on devices you’re signed into using a Microsoft account.

Most people have multiple devices and often begin an activity on one device but finish it on another. To accommodate this, apps must span devices and platforms, which is where Sharing across devices comes in.

With Share across devices in Windows 11, you can select three settings. For example, you can turn off the share app experiences, share with your devices only, or share with everyone nearby.

Below is how to use Share across devices in Windows 11.

How to change Share across devices settings in Windows 11

As mentioned above, Windows 11 has a feature that allows app sharing across devices connected to your Microsoft account. When this feature is enabled, the default behavior is to share apps running on all the devices you have signed with your Microsoft account.

Below is how to change the Share across devices settings in Windows 11.

Windows 11 has a centralized location for the majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from the System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + I shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings, as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar to search for Settings. Then select to open it.

In Windows Settings, click Apps on the right pane and select the Advanced Apps Settings tile to expand it.

On the Advanced apps settings pane, expand the “Share across devices” tile to expand it.

Then, choose one of the options available.

  • Off – Turn off the feature so that it’s not used.
  • My devices will – This allows you to share your app experience across all the devices you signed in to with your Microsoft account.
  • Everyone nearby – This will allow everyone nearby to use the Share across Devices feature to share with you.

To share your app’s experience across multiple devices, you’ll want to ensure the default option (My devices only) is selected for all devices.

That should do it!
