This post shows students and new users steps to turn On or Off. Remember my app feature with Windows Backup in Windows 11.

When you sign into Windows with your Microsoft account and turn on Windows backup, you can choose to back up your profile preferences, settings, and apps across all the other devices that you’ve signed in to with your Microsoft account.

When you tell Windows to remember your backed-up apps, it will remember the apps installed from the Microsoft Store and help you restore them on the new devices you signed in with your Microsoft account.

This setting is unavailable for work or school accounts, and Windows does not remember your apps for work or school accounts.

The steps below will show you how to turn on the Windows backup feature to remember your installed apps from the Microsoft Store so that they can be reinstalled on all your other devices when you sign in with your Microsoft account.

How do turn to remember my app feature with Windows backup in Windows 11

As mentioned above, with Windows backup, you can back up your profile preferences, settings, and apps across all the Windows devices you’ve signed in to with your Microsoft account.

Windows will also remember the apps you have installed and help you restore them from Microsoft Store on your new devices.

Below is how to do that.

Windows 11 has a centralized location for the majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from the System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + I shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings, as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar to search for Settings. Then select to open it.

Windows Settings pane should look like the image below. For example, click Accounts on the right pane in Windows Settings and select the Windows backup tile to expand it.

Select the Remember My Apps tile on the Windows backup settings pane, and toggle the button to the On position to activate this feature.

You can now close the Settings app.

If you do not want to have Windows, remember your apps to help you install it on your new devices, then turn it off by toggling the button to the Off position.

To stop backing up your settings and remove them from the cloud, turn off Windows backup settings on all the devices connected to your Microsoft account. Once this is done, you must remove these settings from your account.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to account.microsoft.com/devices
  2. At the bottom of the page, select Clear stored settings

That should do it!

Conclusion:

  • The Windows backup feature enhances your experience by remembering your installed apps across devices.
  • The feature is accessible through the System Settings pane, offering a straightforward toggle option.
  • You can turn off the ‘Remember My Apps’ feature anytime if you prefer not to have your apps backed up.
  • To remove all backed-up settings from the cloud, turn off Windows backup on all devices connected to your Microsoft account.
  • For a comprehensive management of your settings, you can clear stored settings via the Microsoft account portal.

This concludes the guide for effectively using the Windows backup feature in Windows 11.
