This post shows students and new users steps to show different wallpaper backgrounds on each display in Windows 11. By default, when you set up multiple monitors, all will share the same background.

You can only set different backgrounds when you extend your display across multiple monitors. Once your display is extended to other monitors, you can set different backgrounds, and the steps below will show you how to do that.

If you don’t know how to extend the display in Windows 11, then read the post below to learn how.

How to extend the display to other monitors in Windows 11

Once your displays are in extended mode, continue below.

How to set separate wallpaper on each monitor on Windows 11

As mentioned above, Windows allows you to show different wallpaper on each display in extended mode. You must first enable extended mode in your display settings.

Below is how to do that.

Windows 11 has a centralized location for the majority of its settings. Everything can be done, from system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows from its System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + I shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings, as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.

Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Personalization, and select Background tile on the right pane of your screen, shown in the image below.

The Background section’s option lets you create a background from a picture, a color, or a slideshow. A slideshow is a combination of photos that automatically changes at preset intervals.

On the available wallpaper or background image, right-click on anyone, then select the monitor to set it on.

When you right-click on a background image, you will see options to set for all the available monitors or only one.

Repeat the steps for each monitor if you have multiple and want to display different backgrounds.

You can also configure a background slideshow and set it on a single display.

That should do it!

Conclusion:

  • Windows 11 allows customizing each display with different wallpaper backgrounds in extended mode.
  • Access the System Settings using Windows key + I or through the Start menu.
  • Navigate to Personalization and select the Background option to choose your wallpapers.
  • Right-click on the desired wallpaper to set it for individual monitors.
  • You can repeat the process for each monitor to achieve a unique look.
  • Consider utilizing a background slideshow for dynamic wallpapers on your displays.
  • Enjoy personalizing your workspace to enhance productivity and aesthetics!

Option no longer exists in Windows 11 for different settings per monitor for either the background image or slideshow.
