This article explains how to restrict Windows 11 to install apps only from the Microsoft Store. All other sources will be denied.
Windows allows you to download apps from the Microsoft Store by default, but you can also choose to download apps from other sources. This setting prevents users from installing apps from other sources.
If you want to restrict what apps get installed in Windows, you can choose to do so in Windows 11. This feature allows users to choose from which source apps can be installed. This will turn off all other sources, including the execution of installation files.
To change this setting, go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, and under “Installing apps“, choose your preferred option.
Restricting sources from which apps can be installed isn’t new, but it is a great feature if you want to lock down and protect a computer from unintentionally installing viruses and malware.
How to only allow apps from the Windows store
To protect your computer, restrict which apps are installed and where they are installed. The steps below show you how to do this in Windows.
First, open the Settings app.
To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + I shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings, as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar to search for Settings. Then select to open it.
In Windows Settings, click Apps, and select “Advanced apps settings” on the right to expand it.

On the Advanced app settings pane, you’ll notice that apps are installed from Anywhere, as highlighted below.

To restrict the Windows device only to install trusted apps from the Microsft Store, use the drop-down options and select “The Microsoft Store only (Recommended).”

Now, try to download an app from online or another source. Windows will prevent you with an error “The app you’re trying to install isn’t a Microsoft-verified app” message in a new window.

That’s it!
