How to Disable Unnecessary Startup Apps in Windows 11

Is your Windows 11 computer running slowly when you start it up? Many programs automatically launch when Windows boots. Some of these are useful. Others just slow things down.

Why does this matter? Every program that starts automatically uses your computer’s resources. This makes your PC take longer to boot and run slower overall.

What happens when you disable startup apps? Your computer will start faster. Your system will be more responsive. You’ll waste less time waiting.

Find Programs That Start Automatically

First, let’s see which programs are set to launch when Windows starts.

Look at the bottom right corner of your screen. You’ll see a small arrow icon in the system tray. Click it to expand the area.

Move your mouse over each icon to see the program name. Click “Show hidden icons” so you don’t miss anything.

This shows you some of the programs that start automatically. But this list doesn’t show everything.

Turn Off Startup Programs

To find and disable all your startup programs, follow these steps.

Step 1: Open the Settings App

Summary

By removing programs you don’t use regularly from startup, your PC will boot faster and run more smoothly. Use the Settings app to access your Startup section and toggle off any programs you don’t need running in the background. Make sure to leave essential programs enabled. Check your startup list every few months as new programs may add themselves to the startup list. A faster startup means more time being productive and less time waiting.
