This article explains how to turn on or off apps access to the device’s camera on Windows 11.

Camera access in Windows allows apps and programs to access the device’s built-in or connected camera. This feature allows users to take pictures, record videos, make video calls, or use the camera through different applications installed on their devices.

Users can control which apps can access their camera by adjusting the camera privacy settings in Windows. This helps to ensure that apps that don’t require access to the camera do not have access to it, thus protecting the user’s privacy and security.

Turn off the Windows 11 Webcam

As mentioned, users can turn on or off app access to the device’s built-in or connected camera on Windows.

Here’s how to do it.

First, open the Settings app.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + I shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings, as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar to search for Settings. Then select to open it.

In Windows Settings, click Privacy & Security, and select Camera tile on the right pane of your screen to expand it.

On the Camera settings page, select the “Camera access” tile. Then, toggle the switch button to the On or Off position to enable or disable app access to the camera.

Turn camera access on or off for individual app

Instead of turning on or off camera access for all apps, you can select apps that you want to allow or deny camera access.

Apps not enabled to use the device’s camera will be denied.

Expand the “Let apps access your camera” tile to do that. Then, toggle the on or off switch button to allow or deny access to specific apps.

That should do it!

Conclusion:

  • Controlling camera access on Windows 11 enhances user privacy and security.
  • Users can easily manage which applications have permission to access the camera.
  • Adjusting camera access settings is a simple process through the Settings app.
  • By allowing or denying access on an individual app basis, users can customize their privacy preferences.
  • Regularly reviewing camera access settings is recommended to maintain optimal security.
