This post shows students and new users how to use the new Sticky Notes with Windows 11.

Microsoft Sticky Notes app is a simple way to quickly create post-it-like notes and save them for later. It’s like a quick reminder that can easily be discarded after use.

The new Sticky Notes app now supports pen input. It offers reminders and other insight data that you can stick to the desktop, move around freely, and sync across devices and apps like OneNote Mobile, Microsoft Launcher for Android, and more.

The Sticky Notes also supports different insights data, including dates, times, and others, with Cortana enabled and functional. When you type something with a time or date, the time or date will turn blue links that you can click or tap into and set reminders.

If your Windows device has a pen or stylus, you can also draw or write notes directly on a sticky note with your stylus.

Below, we’ll show you how to open and use the Sticky Notes in Windows 11.

How to use the Sticky Notes app in Windows 11

Go to the Start menu > All apps and click Sticky Notes like any other Windows app.

When the Sticky Notes app opens, you can Pin it to the Taskbar by right-clicking on the app icon on the Taskbar and selecting Pin to Taskbar if you want to.

The Sticky Notes app is very simple to use. By default, you can sign in with your Microsoft account when you launch it for the first time.

You can back up and sync your notes across devices when you sign in using your Microsoft account. If you haven’t created an account, you should do it to back up your notes.

If you simply want to use the app without signing in, exit the sign-in screen and begin using the app.

By default, you’ll see a yellow sticky note. You can type whatever you want into the Post-it, like a note, which will save your note for later.

The app also comes with a hub where all your notes are recorded.

To create a new note, click the “+” sign.

To change the color of a note, click the “” menu button and select one of the color choices.

You can then change the color of the notes using the color palette. From this menu, you can also delete a note. Simply click the trash can button (Delete note) to delete a note.

These individual windows can be moved anywhere on the desktop and resized. Simply select the title bar and drag the windows anywhere on the desktop. If you double-click, the tile bar maximizes the windows, and double-clicking restores its default size.

Clicking X on the window does not delete the note. You can always retrieve the note by going to the list hub.

Use the tips below if you have too many notes on your screen and want to hide or unhide them quickly.
