This article explains how to show or hide the File Explorer Details pane in Windows 11.

The latest Windows 11 builds added a new, modernized details pane in File Explorer (ALT + Shift + P) designed to help you quickly access related content, stay up to date with file activity, and collaborate without even opening a file.

When this feature is enabled, and a user selects a file in File Explorer, a modern pane will display contextual information about the file, including file thumbnail, share status and button, file activity, related files and e-mails, and other information.

To enable the pane, choose ‘Details pane‘ in the View menu and then toggle the pane with an easy-access button on the right side of the command bar.

This modernized pane will replace the legacy details pane in File Explorer.

Turn on or off the Details pane in File Explorer

As mentioned above, a new modernized details pane in File Explorer (ALT + Shift + P) is designed to help you quickly access related content, stay up to date with file activity and collaborate without even opening a file.

There are multiple ways to show the ‘Details pane’ in File Explorer. Below are steps that show you how to use it.

The quickest way to use the ‘Details pane‘ is to open File Explorer (Windows key + E).

Then press the Alt + Shift + P keys to toggle show or hide the Details pane in File Explorer.

Alternatively, open File Explorer and click View on the command bar. Then click on Show, and select (show) or unselect (hide – default) Details pane.

Show or hide the Details pane in File Explorer via Windows Registry Editor

Showing or hiding the ‘Details pane‘ in File Explorer can also be configured in the Windows Registry Editor.

To do that, go to the registry keys below and update the hex values to show or hide the ‘Details pane‘ in File Explorer.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Modules\GlobalSettings\DetailsContainer

Double-click the DetailsContainer and confirm the hex value is ( 01 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 ).

Also, open the registry key below:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Modules\GlobalSettings\Sizer

Double-click the DetailsContainerSizer and confirm the hex value is ( 15 01 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 c0 03 00 00 ).

Hide the ‘Details pane’

If you always want to hide the ‘Detail pane’ in File Explorer, change the registry values above to the ones below:

DetailsContainer = 02 00 00 00 02 00 00 00
DetailsContainerSize = 15 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 c0 03 00 00

If you do not have a DetailsContainer and DetailsContainerSize binary values (REG_BINARY) in the right pane of the above registry keys, right-click in a blank area on the right pane and select New -> Binary Value, type DetailsContainer and DetailsContainerSize in the fields.

Then use the hex values to show or hide the ‘Details pane’ in File Explorer.

That should do it!
