This article explains the steps to restart the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) in Windows 11.

Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) creates a virtual machine that provides the environment to install and run Android applications as natively installed on Windows.

Whenever you change WSA configurations, you must restart its process to apply changes. Restarting WSA can also resolve minor issues if something isn’t working correctly.

Below are multiple ways to restart WSA processes in Windows 11.

Turn off Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA)

As described above, for changes you make to WSA to apply, you must stop and start its process again. Of course, you can also restart your computer, but that might not be the quickest way.

Windows Subsystem for Android lets you turn off its process directly from its settings panel. Then, when you start up WSA again, it will load all configurations, including ones that were changed.

So, one way to restart WSA is to turn off and reopen the app on your computer.

To do that, click on the Start menu button, and click on All apps -> select and open Windows Subsystem for Android app on the list.

When the app opens, click the Settings button on the left.

On the right, scroll down and click the Turn off button on the tile “Turn off Windows Subsystem for Android” to stop all WSA processes.

When you start the WSA app again, new configuration changes will be loaded.

Stop and Start the WSA process using the Task Manager

Alternatively, one can use the Task Manager app to end WSA processes. New configuration changes will be reloaded when you end or stop the WSA process and reopen the app.

First, open the Task Manager app.

When the Task Manager app opens, select the Processes tab. Then, scroll down, select the “Windows Subsystem for the Android” process, and click End task.

You could also right-click on the WSA process and select End task.

Terminal WSA process using the Windows Settings app

Yet, another way to terminate or stop WSA processes is via the Windows Settings app. To do that, click on the Start menu and select Settings.

You can also use the keyboard shortcut (Windows key + I) to launch the Settings app.

When the Settings app opens, click the Apps button on the left.

On the right, click on Apps & features or the Installed app’s tile to expand.

On the Apps --> Installed app, locate the Windows Subsystem for Android app, select more options (3 dots), and click Advanced options.

Click the Terminate button on the Advanced options settings pane for WSA to end all WSA processes.

Reopen the WSA app and reload new configuration changes or resolve issues.

That should do it!
