This post shows students and new users how to move the taskbar in Windows 11 to the top of the desktop screen.
In previous versions of Windows, one could drag and drop the taskbar to different sides of the screen. That taskbar mobility has gone with Windows 11. However, there’s still a way to get your taskbar to the top of the screen if you want to do that, but it takes time to get it done.
The new Windows 11 has many cool features and a refreshing new graphical interface, including a centered Start menu and taskbar, rounded corners, windows, themes, and colors that make any Windows device stand out.
The steps below should be done with care. If you haven’t backed up your computer, please do so before attempting to modify the Windows registry.
To get started moving the Windows 11 taskbar to the top of the screen, follow the steps below:
Put Windows Taskbar on Top
Before implementing the steps below, please back up Windows. Modifying the Windows registry isn’t for the faint of heart. If you make a mistake in the registry, it could make your system unstable.
When ready, use the keyboard shortcut Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog. Then type: regedit and hit Enter or click OK.
When the Registry Editor opens, navigate to the following path. You can simply copy and paste the following into the box at the top and hit Enter:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3
Once you navigate the path above, double-click the highlighted Settings name to open its binary content.
Find column FE, row 00000008. The value will be set to 03 by default. Replace the highlighted 03 with 01. When you’re done, the binary content should look like this.
Click OK to save your changes.
Restart your computer for the changes to apply. Once you log back in, you should see the taskbar moved to the top of the screen.
