This article explains the steps to turn on or off the Split Screen feature in the Microsoft Edge browser.

The Microsoft Edge browser is the default browser in Windows 11. However, users can switch to their preferred or favorite browser anytime. Edge is based on Chromium, similar to Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers today.

The Edge browser team is working on a new feature that isn’t yet available to all users. However, it is currently added to the development version of Edge, which is making its way to all users.

Similar to how Snap layout works, the Edge split screen feature will let you split an Edge window into two, letting you compare or work with both screens simultaneously.

When enabled, a button will appear on the Edge bar where you can easily toggle the split screen on or off. Below is how to enable it in the Microsoft Edge browser.

Turn on or off the split screen button in the Microsoft Edge browser

As described above, a new feature currently in the development version of the Edge browser will let users split a window into separate screens, allowing you to work side by side or compare content.

Here’s how to enable or disable it.

As of now, this feature isn’t enabled by default. You must first enable it before using it.

Open the Microsoft Edge browser. Then, enter the URL into the address bar and press Enter.

edge://flags/#edge-split-screen

When you get to the settings for the Split screen, please enable it.

Once enabled, you will be prompted to restart your browser.

Next, click on Setting and more (Alt+F) 3 horizontal dots button on the top right corner and select Settings.

Next, click on Appearance on the left menu.

On the Settings -> Appearance settings pane, under the Customize browser section, toggle the button on the tile that says “Split screen button” to On or Off.

If it is off, the Split screen button will not appear on the menu bar. If enabled, the Spit screen button will appear on the menu bar.

The split-screen window should look like the one below.
